For someone who loves daffodils, the beautiful flowers of Spring…
Son of Here Comes the Sun
I made this piece in early Spring 2019 after having dinner with friends. During dinner, the flowers we brought for our host were right in the middle of the table, and they took center stage in a picture with the flowers obscuring my face. The picture reminded me of the René Magritte painting “The Son of Man” in which the man’s face — said to be a self-portrait of Magritte — is obscured by an apple.
That inspired me to make my own self-portrait based on Magrit’s painting, replacing the apple with one of my favorite daffodils… the one I use as my own personal avatar and who often happens to say “Places everyone, here comes the Sun!”
And that’s how I came up with the title, an amalgam of The Son of Man and Here Comes the Sun, to achieve “Son of Here Comes the Sun.”
The best part is my friend bought the completed piece at my next art show and I get to see it every time I walk into her home!
